Why buy these Great Montana Collection 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollars?
These Silver 1885-O Morgan Dollars give you a chance to own a piece of one of the biggest discoveries from the past two decades, the Great Montana Collection. George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana amassed the collection, which consisted of over 17,000 pieces, due to his mistrust of banks. Your coins, which are the exact ones shown on this page, bear the New Orleans Mint's "O" mint mark. They were struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
Iconic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
This coins get their name from George T. Morgan, who designed both faces. On the obverse is Liberty, whom Morgan modeled off of Anna Willess Williams. Morgan's choice of Willliams marked a change from the tradition of Greek-style depictions of Liberty in favor of an American one. She wears a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom, on her head along with a crown of cotton and wheat and a ribbon on which her name is inscribed.
On the reverse, a laurel wreath largely encircles an eagle. The eagle holds arrows, symbols of military preparedness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head.
Well Preserved MS65
These coins earned Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) Mint State 65 grade. MS65 coins are well struck and possess excellent eye appeal overall.
