Why purchase this Great Montana Collection 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollar Set?
One of the greatest discoveries in recent decades, the Great Montana Collection of George Bouvier consisted of over 17,000 coins that he assembled over the course of his lifetime. This 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollar was a part of that collection and gives you the chance to share in this historic find. Like other Morgans, these coins were struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver. They bear the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint. You will receive the exact coins shown on this page.
American Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
George T. Morgan, the man who designed both faces of this coin, departed from tradition by choosing Anna Willess Williams, an American-style figure, as his model for Liberty. The left-side portrait on the obverse shows her wearing a Phrygian cap that covers much of her long hair. She also dons a crown made from cotton and wheat and a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name.
The national bird, an eagle, features on the reverse. It holds arrows and an olive branch and is mostly encircled by a laurel wreath. "IN GOD WE TRUST," the national motto, is inscribed above its head.
Well Preserved MS65
These beautifully preserved, toned Morgans received a Mint State 65 grade from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade indicates that they are well struck and bear only minimal marks or hairlines.
