Why order this 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar Set of 3 Coins from the Great Montana Collection?
Each of the three 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollars in this set was discovered as part of the 17,000+ piece Great Montana Collection. Assembled by George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana, the hoard is considered one of the greatest private finds in recent history. Each of these three coins bears the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint, where it was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
Iconic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
These coins are named for the man who designed them, George T. Morgan. His obverse design made numismatic history and earned this coin a place in the hearts of generations of Americans because it broke with the tradition of depicting Liberty as a Greek-style figure and instead depicted her as an American-style figure. Shown in left-side portrait, she wears a Phrygian cap that covers much of her long hair, as well as a crown of cotton and wheat and a ribbon with an inscription of her name.
An eagle holds arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, on the reverse. A laurel wreath just inside the rim inscriptions largely encircles the bird.
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that each of these toned coins is in Mint State 64 condition. That means that all three of the coins have good strikes and eye appeal.
