Why add these 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollars from the Great Montana Collection to your collection?
George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana put together one of the biggest private coin collections discovered in recent decades. It consisted of over 17,000 pieces, including these 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollars. You will receive the exact coins depicted on this page. Each coin was struck at the New Orleans Mint, which is represented by an "O" mint mark on the reverse, from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
Historic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
On the obverse of these coins is the iconic Liberty design of George T. Morgan. Morgan broke from numismatic tradition by choosing an American-style model rather than a Greek one for Liberty. She is depicted in left-side portrait wearing a Phrygian cap, a crown of cotton and wheat, and a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY."
Morgan also designed the reverse, where a laurel wreath wraps under an eagle. The bird holds arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above its head.
Well Preserved MS64
These toned Morgans were graded Mint State 64 by the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade indicates that a coin has an above average strike and excellent eye appeal overall.
