Why purchase this Great Montana Collection 3-Coin 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar Set?
Each of the coins in this 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar 3-Coin Set was discovered as part of the 17,000+ piece Great Montana Collection, which was assembled by George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana. The coins bear the New Orleans Mint's "O" mint mark at the bottom of the reverse. Each was struck at that mint from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver. You will receive the exact coins shown on this page.
Groundbreaking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Designer George T. Morgan was a pioneer in American numismatics in that he chose to model his Liberty design, which appears on the obverse of these coins, on an American-style figure rather than a Greek-style one. He shows Liberty in left-side profile wearing a Phrygian cap, a crown made from two staple American crops, cotton and wheat, and a ribbon that bears her name, "LIBERTY."
The reverse is dominated by an eagle, which holds arrows, symbols of military preparedness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. A laurel wreath wraps under the bird, while the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed above its head.
Each of these three coins is toned and has been graded Mint State 64 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). All MS64 coins have average or better strikes and good eye appeal.
