Why add these Great Montana Collection 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollars to your collection?
George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana assembled what is now known as the Great Montana Collection, which consisted of over 17,000 pieces. These 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollars were a part of that collection, so they give you a chance to be a part of numismatic history. The coins were struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the New Orleans Mint and bear an "O" mint mark at the base of the reverse design. The coins that you receive will be the exact ones depicted on this page.
Beloved Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The Morgan dollar gets its name from George T. Morgan, who designed both faces of it. On the obverse is a left-side portrait of Liberty, whom Morgan designed using an American-style model. This marked a departure from the tradition of Greek-style representations of Liberty. She wears a symbol of freedom, a Phrygain cap, that covers much of her hair, along with a crown of cotton and wheat and a ribbon that bears her name, "LIBERTY." A laurel wreath wraps around an eagle on the reverse.
These toned Morgans earned Mint State 64 grades from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade indicates that a coin has an above average strike along with excellent eye appeal overall.
