Why add this NGC certified Mint State 69 2021 American Silver Eagle Type-1 and Type-2 coin set to your collection of precious metals?
2021 is a milestone, transitional year for the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle Program. In honor of the 35th anniversary of the series, the Mint has issued two distinct designs with the same 2021 date, representing the final year of issue of the Type-1 Heraldic Eagle reverse, which has appeared on the coin since the series introduction in 1986, and the inaugural release of the Type-2 design, which features an Eagle Landing.
Exciting American Silver Eagle Designs
Obverse: The obverse features the time-honored personification of Lady Liberty as a young woman, strolling toward the rising sun with an American flag draped around her walking form. She carries a bouquet of long oak and laurel branches, which are symbols of strength, honor and victory. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This rendition of Liberty by famed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman was first struck upon the circulating Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin in 1916. The Type-2 Silver Eagle release includes the designer's "AW" monogram for the first time in the history of the series.
Type-1 Reverse: A heraldic eagle is featured on the Type-1 style reverse, posed grasping arrows and an olive branch with a striped shield at its breast. The image created by John Mercanti includes the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Mr. Mercanti, who is currently retired, was the U.S. Mint's 12th Chief Engraver from 2006 until 2010. Type-2 Reverse: The new Type-2 reverse image is focused on an eagle in flight, as it prepares to land, with a branch of oak clutched in its talons. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR." The "Eagle Landing" design was created by renowned science Illustrator Emily Damstra. Ms. Damstra's impressive portfolio includes interpretive signage for museums, zoos and parks, as well as multiple U.S. and Royal Canadian Mint coin and medal designs.
