Why order this PCGS certified 2022-W American Proof Silver Eagle?
The U.S. Mint continues the ever popular Proof Silver Eagle Series with this 2022-W edition. Struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the West Point Mint, this 2022 issue marks the second Type 2 release. The Type 2 version replaced the Type 1 in mid-2021. The Type 2 design features a new reverse design, a new security feature, and includes Adolph Weinman's artist mark on the obverse.
Powerful Landing Eagle Design by Emily Damstra
Obverse: Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches in the early morning sun on the obverse. The image comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins the date, "2022," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," among the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman immigrated to the United States from Germany as a teenager. He was a prominent sculptor who made important contributions to the early 20th century American numismatic renaissance.
Reverse: Emily Damstra's reverse design shows an eagle with its wings spread as it prepares to land with an oak branch in its talons. Along the rim are the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR," and its metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER." The statutory motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is also inscribed on this face. Emily Damstra is a University of Michigan graduate. Her designs have been featuring on American coinage since 2017.
