Description

Why order this Proof 2022-W American Silver Eagle certified by NGC to be in Proof 70 Ultra Cameo Condition?

The entire American Silver Eagle series underwent some big changes in mid-2021, and 2022 marks the first full year for the Type 2 version of the coin. A new reverse design by Emily Damstra replaced the iconic John Mercanti reverse design, and Adolph Weinman’s artist mark was added to the obverse. The new version also has a security feature, an interrupted reeded edge, that makes counterfeiting extremely difficult.

Patriotic Landing Eagle Design by Emily Damstra

Obverse: Grading the obverse is the iconic Walking Liberty design, which comes from Adolph Weinman’s Half Dollar of the same name. The early morning sun begins to rise as Liberty, draped in the American flag, carries branches in the foreground. Obverse inscriptions include the central figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the date, “2022,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Adolph Weinman played a major role in the overhaul of American coinage in the early 20th century. His most famous contributions to the effort were the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.

Reverse: On the reverse is a highly detailed Eagle Landing reverse design by Emily Damstra. The national bird carries an oak branch as it spreads its wings preparing to land. “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is inscribed inside the rim inscriptions, which read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” Emily Damstra earned her M.F.A. from the University of Michigan. Her designs have been appearing on American coins since 2017.
