Powerful Landing Eagle Design by Emily Damstra
Obverse: Gracing the obverse is Adolph Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design. An American flag-draped Liberty bears branches of laurel and oak as the morning sun begins to rise. Inscribed on this face are the central figure’s name, “LIEBRTY,” the date, “2022,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Adolph Weinman immigrated to the US from Germany in his teens. He was a prominent sculptor who designed two of the most important coins in America’s early 20th century numismatic renaissance, the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: On the reverse is an image of an eagle landing with an oak branch in its talons. The reverse was designed by Emily Damstra. The name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value, “ONE DOLLAR,” and its metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” are inscribed along the rim, and the statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is also included on this face. Emily Damstra graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters of Fine Arts. Her designs have been appearing on American coinage since 2017.
