Striking Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
Obverse: The obverse design is named for Augustus Saint-Gaudens and first appeared on the Double Eagle. Liberty strikes a confident pose facing the holder with her torch, a symbol of freedom, in one hand and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in the other. She stands against a backdrop of the rays of the rising sun and is encircled by fifty stars. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed at the top, while the date, "2022," is noted on the right. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an immigrant who was trained in both the United States and Paris. He founded the Cornish Colony, which was a haven for artists.
Reverse: On the reverse is a highly detailed profile of a bald eagle that was designed by Jennie Norris. The two statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed above the bird's head. Rim inscriptions include the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value and weight of the respective coin. Jennie Norris is an award-winning fine artist. She has worked for such impressive clients as Hasbro, Hershey, Crayola, and Sea World.
