Description

The burnished (uncirculated) variety of the American Silver Eagle coin was introduced in 2006 in honor of the series’ 20th anniversary. In 2021, when the Silver Eagle celebrated its 35th anniversary, the U.S. Mint marked the milestone with the introduction of a new Type-2 reverse design. This 2022 dated Silver Eagle represents the second year of issue of the Type-2 style with the satiny burnished finish.

  • This 2022-W Burnished American Silver Eagle coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
  • The coin features the “W” Mint mark of the West Point Mint.
  • The coin measures 40.60 mm in diameter.
  • The silver dollar’s design includes a difficult-to-duplicate reeded edge variation as a counterfeit deterrent.
  • The coin will ship in its original Mint package.

Imagery Symbolizing Liberty and Freedom

Obverse: The obverse features the concept of Liberty, personified as a young woman draped in an American flag. She casually walks towards a new day’s sun carrying a bundle of oak and laurel, which are emblematic of strength and victory. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “2022,” along with the “AW” monogram of the artist. This timeless rendition of Liberty first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by acclaimed early 20th century medallic sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.

Reverse: The reverse depicts an eagle gripping an oak branch as it prepares to land. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “W” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The Type-2 eagle landing design was created by Emily Damstra, a U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist since 2014.
