Why purchase this Burnished 2022-W American Silver Eagle?

The U.S. Mint introduced the Burnished Silver Eagle in 2006. A stunning addition to the Silver Eagle Series, the coin quickly became a “must have” for collectors in the United States and around the world. Struck on a burnished blank and polished after it is struck, this piece bears the “W” mint mark of the West Point Mint, which is situated not far from the campus of the United States Military Academy.

  • This piece is $1 legal tender in the United States.
  • This coin was struck on a punished planchet of 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
  • This coin bears the West Point Mint’s “W” mint mark.
  • 2022 marks the first full year of the Type 2 Silver Eagle.
  • This piece has an interrupted reeded edge that makes it extremely difficult to counterfeit.
  • The Burnished Silver Eagle was first struck in 2006 on the 20th anniversary of the bullion version of the coin.
  • Emily Damstra’s reverse design replaced John Mercanti’s in mid-2021.
  • Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Mint State 70.
  • NGC certified this coin First Day of Issue.

Featuring the Striking Landing Eagle Design of Emily Damstra

Obverse: The iconic Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman graces the obverse. Liberty is draped in the American flag and carries laurel and oak branches, which represent civilian and military honors, respectively, as the morning sun begins to rise. Inscriptions on this face offer the central figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the coin’s date, “2022,” and the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Adolph Weinman was a German immigrant who became one of the best known numismatic artists in American history. His most famous works were the designs for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.

Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle carries an oak branch in its talons as it prepares to land. The design, which was created by Emily Damstra, is joined by the statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Along the rim are additional inscriptions, which note the name of the country that issued the coin, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” its face value, “ONE DOLLAR,” and its metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.” Emily Damstra earned her MFA at the University of Michigan. Her designs have appeared on American coinage since 2017.
