Featuring the Iconic Buffalo Nickel Designs of James Earle Fraser
Both of this coin's designs come from James Earle Fraser's Buffalo Nickel. Obverse: The obverse bears a composite portrait of a Native American man. He has distinct facial features, a feather tied up in his hair, and braids that fall over his shoulders. "LIBERTY" is inscribed along the rim in front of his face, while the date, "2022," and artist's final initial, "F," are inscribed on his shoulder.
Reverse: An American bison features on the reverse in left-side profile. The two statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed above its back and below its head, respectively. The coin's face value, "$50," is noted below. Along the rim are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and its weight and purity, "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD." James Earle Fraser was a prolific sculptor whose work can still be seen in many places, most notable around Washington, DC. He is best known for designing the Buffalo Nickel.
