Timeless Design of the Krugerrand
Obverse: The likeness of former South African president Paul Kruger, posed facing left, is featured on the obverse. The inscriptions “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA” arc above the portrait.
Reverse: The speed and grace of South Africa’s national animal, the springbok antelope, is demonstrated on the reverse, as the creature elegantly leaps over the foliage of the African savanna. Inscriptions include “KRUGERRAND,” “2022” and “FYNSILWER 2 OZ FINE SILVER R2.” The breathtaking wildlife rendition was struck on South Africa’s circulating five shilling coin from 1948-1964.
