Sensational Krugerrand Design

Obverse: Paul Kruger, South African President from 1883-1902, is depicted in a left facing pose on the obverse, beneath the declaration of the issuing nation in Afrikaans and English as "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA."

Reverse: The image of a springbok antelope leaping over the foliage of the African savanna located on the reverse is borrowed from the 1948 South African five shilling coin. The graceful creature is surrounded by the inscriptions "KRUGERRAND," "2022" and "FYNSILWER 2 OZ FINE SILVER R2."
