Obverse: The coin's obverse bears a left-side portrait of Paul Kruger, the third President of the South African Republic. He is shown with his characteristic long, thick beard. Arching over him are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country in both Afrikaans, "SUID-AFRIKA," and English, "SOUTH AFRICA."

Reverse: Coert Steynberg's reverse design features a springbok antelope, the national symbol of South Africa. The animal splits the first and last two digits of the date, "2022." Rim inscriptions include the name of the coin, "KRUGERRAND," and and the coin's weight in English and Afrikaans, "FYNGOUD 2 OZ FINE GOLD." Coert Steynberg was a prolific artist. He sculpted works of wood, copper, bronze, and marble.
