Gorgeous American Women Quarters
Common Obverse: The obverse features a right facing portrait of George Washington which is new to the U.S. Quarter Dollar coin. The image is credited to Laura Gardin Fraser, one of the most prolific female sculptors of the early 20th century. The design, which previously appeared on a commemorative gold coin in 1999, was one of those considered for the introduction of the Washington Quarter in 1932. Inscribed “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “2022” and “S.”
Reverse: The first five people to be honored on the reverse of the American Women Quarter series are: Maya Angelou (award-winning author), Dr. Sally Ride (physicist and first American woman in space), Wilma Mankiller (Cherokee Nation’s first female Principal Chief), Nina Otero-Warren (leader of New Mexico’s suffrage movement), and Anna May Wong (Hollywood’s first Chinese-American film star). Each coin is inscribed with the honoree’s name, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
