Exquisitely Detailed Allegorical Imagery
Obverse: The obverse features Lady Germania boldly stepping ashore with an imperial sword (Reichsschwert) and a heraldic shield held battle ready in her grasp. A bicephalous (two-headed) eagle is depicted in flight ahead of the female warrior, keenly focused on any pending threats. The double-headed eagle symbolizes the power to look with confidence towards the future, while simultaneously utilizing knowledge from the past. Inscribed “GERMANIA 2022” and “2 OZ AG 999.9.”
Reverse: The two-headed eagle emblem of the Germania Mint is centered on the reverse. The eagle is flanked by two curving laurel branches, with the inscriptions “10 MARK” above and “GERMANIA” below. Since the German Mark was officially replaced with the Euro as the German national currency in 1999, the appearance of the denomination on the medal is aesthetic only.
