Originally an emblem of Premyslid dynasty, the mythical heraldic lion, a symbol representing chivalry, strength and bravery, was a reward for saving the life of a lion in a battle with a fierce dragon. In the 13th century, Ottokar II, the Iron and Gold King, established the unique symbol as a national emblem of Bohemia (currently a region within the Czech Republic).
Beautifully Crafted Czech Lion DesignObverse: A shield located at the center of the obverse contains a right facing effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. "NIUE ISLAND," "2022," "ELIZABETH II" and "2 DOLLARS" are inscribed near the rim of the shield. A stylized eagle is rendered in the background, which is derived from the St. Wenceslas, Moravian, and Silesian birds of prey. The likeness of the monarch was created in 1998 by award-winning British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. Reverse: A handsome lion wearing the distinctive crown of St. Wenceslas is illustrated on the reverse, flanked by decorative foliage. Inscriptions include "1 OZ AG 999" and "CESKA REPUBLICA."
