Charming Imagery Celebrating Alexander Graham Bell’s Ingenuity
Obverse: The obverse features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The likeness of the Queen is encircled by a gilded frame containing the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “D.G. REG. F.D.,” “2 POUNDS” and “2022.” This rendition of Great Britain’s longest reigning monarch was created in 2015 by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark.
Reverse: The reverse is adorned with a numbered telephone key pad. The inscription “PIONEER OF THE TELEPHONE” is spread across the buttons, where the alphabet would traditionally appear. The gilded border is inscribed “ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL,” with his life dates “1847” and “1922” on the star and number sign buttons. The coin’s edge is lettered with “INNOVATION IN SCIENCE” and “BELL.”
