A Magnificent Homage to Peace

Obverse: A portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in a right facing pose is centered on the obverse, surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "CANADA," "D.G. REGINA" and "DOLLAR." Crafted by renowned Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt, this distinctive rendition of the monarch has appeared on Canada's coinage since 2003.

Reverse: On the reverse, the concept of Peace is personified as a young woman with her hair ornamented by a wreath fashioned from maple leaves and olive branches, emblems which are symbolic of peace, order and good government. The image is beautifully contrasted against the pulsating background pattern. The Latin phrase "A MARI USQUE AD MARE" curves above, which translates as the Canadian national motto "From Sea to Sea." Additionally inscribed "PAX" (peace), "2022" and the designer's initials "ST." Inspired by the statue of Peace at Canada's National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ontario, this exquisite representation of Peace was created by retired RCM senior engraver Susan Taylor.
