The design height of the Ultra High Relief variety extends an incredible 1.4 mm above the coin's surface, nearly five times higher. The classically styled image was created by the late Walter Ott (1920-2020), the RCM's Master Engraver and Director of Art from 1977-1985. The original, time-honored image which was introduced on the Gold Maple Leaf in 1979, was re-designed into the Ultra High Relief rendition for this limited mintage release by award-winning artist Susan Taylor. In addition to serving as an apprentice to Mr. Ott in the early 1980s, Ms. Taylor was the RCM's Senior Engraver from 1999 until her 2017 retirement.

Obverse: The obverse features an elegant, right facing effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The design is the work of Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt, and represents the winning submission of a competition held by the RCM in 2003. The likeness of the monarch is accompanied by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "20 DOLLARS" and "2022."
