For the first time ever, the coin has been minted with a dramatic Ultra High Relief strike. The classic maple leaf design on the limited mintage release rises an amazing 1.4 mm above the coin's frosted field areas, almost five times the relief height of the standard bullion version! The world renowned rendition of Canada's national symbol was created for the Gold Maple Leaf series in 1979 by the late Walter Ott (1920-2020), the Mint's Chief Engraver and Director of Art from 1977 until 1985. Mr. Ott's timeless design was re-imagined into the sculptural Ultra High Relief numismatic treasure by artist Susan Taylor. Ms. Taylor began her career at the RCM as an apprentice to Mr. Ott in 1981, advancing to Senior Engraver in 1999, where she remained until her retirement in 2017.

Magnificent Maple Leaf Design

Obverse: The obverse features a right facing image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Inscribed "ELIZABETH II," "20 DOLLARS" and "2022." This effigy of the Queen, designed by renowned Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt, has graced the coinage of Canada since 2003.

Reverse: The reverse showcases the iconic sugar maple leaf, rising from the surface of the coin in glorious Ultra High Relief. Inscriptions include "CANADA" and "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR," with the "9999" metallic purity of the coin noted on the right and left sides of the leaf.
