Featuring the Breathtaking Maple Leaf Design of Walter Ott
Obverse: Gracing the obverse is Susanna Blunt's portait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is set against a maple leaf field pattern background. Blunt shows the monarch facing right and wearing earrings and a necklace. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is inscribed above, while the coin's face value, "20 DOLLARS," and date, "2022," are inscribed below. Susanna Blunt was born in China and studied art in Canada and China. Among other accomplishments, she had the Canadian Art Gallery's first one-wman show.
Reverse: The reverse features a super incuse maple leaf design and also features fields that have been treated with a reverse proof pattern of a sugar maple leaf. The maple leaf design was created by Walter Ott and has featured on Canadian coins since the gold and silver series began. The name of the issuing country, "CANADA," arches over the image, while the coin's purity, "9999," is noted to the left and right of the design. Inscribed on the bottom half of the rim is the coin's weight in English and French, "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR." Walter Ott was trained in Austria as a Master Engraver. in Austria. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and spent over twenty years at the Royal Canadian Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver and Director of Art.
