Why order this NGC graded Mint State 70 First Releases 2022 American Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle got a revamp in mid-2021 when the Type 2 version of the coin replaced the Type 1 version. Changes included a new reverse design, the addition of an interrupted edge gap security feature, and the series first inclusion of Adolph Weinman's artist mark on the obverse. The biggest change, though, was that Emily Damstra's "Eagle Landing" reverse design replaced the original "Heraldic Eagle" reverse design of John Mercanti.
Featuring Adolph Weinman's Famous Walking Liberty Design.
Obverse: Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design graces the obverse. Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches as the early morning sun begins to rise. Inscriptions on this face include the coin's date, "2022," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the central figure's name, "LIBERTY." Adolph Weinman was an American immigrant who contributed heavily to America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance. His most famous coins are the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: On the reverse is a design that Emily Damstra created and Michael Gaudioso sculpted. An eagle spreads its wings preparing to land with an oak branch in its talons. Inscribed along the rim are "UNITED STATES," "ONE DOLLAR," and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER." Emily Damstra is a University of Michigan graduate. She earned her M.F.A. there and has been designing coins since 2017.
