Why buy this NGC certified First Day of Issue Mint State 69 2022 American Silver Eagle?
Share in the U.S. Mint's second year of issue of the Type 2 American Silver Eagle. The series got some major revisions in mid-2021 when the Type-1 design that had been used since the series beginning in 1986 was replaced with the type-2 design. This piece shares those new features, which include a new "Eagle Landing" reverse design, the inclusion of Adolph Weinman's artist mark on the obverse, and an interrupted reeded edge, a security feature against counterfeiting.
Powerful Eagle Landing Design by Emily Damstra
Obverse: The obverse bears the Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman, which first appeared on the half dollar of the same name. An American flag draped Liberty carries branches in the early morning sun. She is joined by inscriptions of her name, "LIBERTY," the date, "2022," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Adolph Weinman immigrated to the United States from Germany. He was a prolific artist whose most famous works were the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: The reverse bears the Eagle Landing design of Emily Damstra. Sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, it features an eagle spreading its wings as it prepares to land with an oak branch. It is encircled by rim inscriptions that read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR," and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER." Also inscribed on this face is the second statutory motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Emily Damstra earner her M.F.A. at the University of Michigan. Her designs have been featuring on American coins since 2017.
