Why purchase this perfectly graded First Strike 2022 American Gold Buffalo bullion coin?
The American Gold Buffalo series was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 2006, as the first U.S. legal tender coin struck from 24 karat gold. The series is an homage to the Type I Buffalo Nickel, which was issued nearly a century earlier, in 1913. The Buffalo Nickel was designed by early 20th century sculptor James Earle Fraser, former student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens and designer of the prestigious Navy Cross.
Distinctive Imagery Honoring the Western Frontier
Obverse: Centered on the obverse is a Native American Chief in a right facing pose, with his hair loosely braided, bound with leather cord and ornamented with multiple feathers. The portrait is contrasted against a hammered background. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2022" and Fraser's initial "F."
Reverse: The reverse features a magnificently rendered American buffalo standing upon a flattened dirt mound, with a similar hammered texture in the background. The creature's image is based upon the likeness of Black Diamond, an American buffalo that lived at the New York Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD" and "$50."
