Why add this exceptionally graded First Day of Issue 2022 American Gold Buffalo coin to your collection?
The American Gold Buffalo series has been an annual release of the U.S. Mint since 2006. Obverse and reverse imagery of the coin are borrowed from the 1913 Type I Buffalo Nickel. Minted from 1913 until 1938, the Buffalo Nickel was designed by James Earle Fraser, an early 20th century artist who had been a student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1907 Double Eagle designer).
Magnificent Revival of Historic U.S. Coinage
Obverse: An amazingly lifelike profile portrait of a Native American Chief in profile is centered on the obverse, surrounded by a hammered background. Inscribed "LIBERTY" and "2022," along with the letter "F," which serves as design credit to Fraser.
Reverse: Black Diamond, an American buffalo that lived at New York's Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s, is depicted standing on a dirt mound on the reverse, with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" curving above. Additional inscriptions include "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "$50" and "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD."
