Why add this 2022 $50 American 1 oz Gold Buffalo to your collection?
The U.S. Mint continues the young yet rich tradition of the Gold Buffalo with this 2022 edition. The series features the classic designs of James Earle Fraser's Buffalo Nickel. The series was introduced in 2006 as an option for collectors who were seeking .9999 fine gold bullion struck by an American mint as opposed to the Gold Eagle which contains .9167 fine gold.
- This coin is $50 legal tender in the United States.
- This coin was struck on a 1 ounce planchet of .9999 fine gold.
- The Gold Buffalo Series started in 2006.
- The US Mint introduced the series to provide a purer American option than the .9167 fine Gold Eagle.
- Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded the coin Mint State 70.
- NGC certified this piece First Releases (FR).
- Grading information comes on an appropriately themed Buffalo label.
Striking American Bison Design by James Earle Fraser
Obverse: A right-side composite portrait of an aging Native American man features on the obverse. The design, like the one opposite it, comes from James Earle Fraser's Buffalo Nickel. Obverse inscriptions include "LIBERTY," the date, "2022," and an "F" for "Fraser."
Reverse: On the reverse is a left-side profile of an American bison. The creature is joined by several inscriptions, including the statutory mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Other inscriptions include the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "$50," and its metal content, "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD." James Earle Fraser is most famous for designing the Buffalo Nickel. His sculptures continue to be displayed at numerous important locations in Washington, DC.
Impeccable MS70 FR with Buffalo Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided the grading information for this piece on a Buffalo label. That information includes a Mint State 70 (MS70) grade and First Releases (FR) certification. The MS70 grade means that it looks perfect even under 5x magnification, while the FR designation indicates that it was submitted to NGC no more than 30 days after its initial release from the mint.
