Why purchase this $50 American 2022 1 oz Gold Buffalo?
This 2022 Gold Buffalo brings together the highest standards in modern minting with the iconic Buffalo Nickel designs of James Earle Fraser. The U.S. Mint started the series in 2006 in response to collector demand for a purer American option than the Gold Eagle. Unlike the Eagle which is annually struck in multiple sizes containing .9167 fine gold, the American Buffalo series is struck is traditionally struck in just one size, 1 troy ounce, containing .9999 fine gold.
Powerful American Bison Design by James Earle Fraser
Obverse: James Earle Fraser designed both faces of the Buffalo Nickel, from which this coin's designs come. On the obverse is a right-side composite portrait of a Native American man, who has feathers in his long hair. Inscriptions on his shoulder note the date, "2022," and last initial of the designer, "F," while "LIBERTY" is inscribed in front of his face.
Reverse: The reverse features a left-side profile of an American bison. The two statutory mottoes, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," are above and below the creature, respectively. Also inscribed on this face are the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "$50," and its metal content, "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD." James Earle Fraser was most famous for designing the Buffalo Nickel. Even so, he was also a prolific sculptor, and his work can still be seen in front of numerous important sites in Washington, DC.
