Why order this $50 American 2022 1 oz Gold Buffalo?

The American Gold Buffalo series started in 2006 on the 20th anniversary of the Gold Eagle. The coin was introduced to offer collectors an option to purchase .9999 fine gold coins issued by the United States Mint, purer than the American Gold Eagle, which is .9167 fine. The designs for coins in this series come from the iconic Buffalo Nickel, which was designed by James Earle Fraser. Unlike the Gold Eagle series, coins in this series are usually struck in just one size, 1 troy ounce, except for 2008 when fractional Buffaloes were released.

  • This piece is $50 U.S. legal tender.
  • This coin was struck from 1 ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • The coin is the latest issue in a series that started in 2006.
  • The U.S. Mint started the Gold Buffalo Series to cater to collectors seeking .9999 fine pure gold, which is more pure than the American Gold Eagle, which contains .9167 fine gold.
  • This series is annually struck in just one size.
  • Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this coin Mint State 69 (MS 69).
  • The grade is provided on an aptly-themed Buffalo certification label.

Featuring the Historic Buffalo Nickel Designs of James Earle Fraser

Obverse: The obverse, like the reverse, features a design from James Earle Fraser's Buffalo Nickel. This face features a composite portrait of an aging Native American man, who has long, braided hair in which there are feathers. The date, "2022," and last initial of the designer, "F," are inscribed on his shoulder, while "LIBERTY" is inscribed along the rim.

Reverse: On the reverse is an American bison, which Fraser depicted in left-side profile. Near the creature are the two statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The coin's face value, "$50," is noted just below, while rim inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD." James Earle Fraser was a sculptor whose work can still be seen throughout Washington, DC. He is most famous for designing the Buffalo Nickel.

Virtually Flawless MS69 with Buffalo Label
