Why order this PCGS certified Mint State 70 First Strikes $50 American 2022 1 oz Gold Eagle?
The American Gold Eagle has emerged as a favorite among collectors around the world since its inception in 1986. The coin underwent major changes in mid-2021, including the introduction of a new "Eagle Portrait" reverse design, the inclusion of a new security feature, an interrupted reeded edge, and an updated obverse design that was brought closer to the original detail and vision of Augustus Saint-Gaudens through use of the US Mint's historical assets. 2022 marks just the second year of issue of the Type-2 design.
Featuring the Patriotic Designs of Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Jennie Norris
Obverse: Gracing the obverse as it has since 1986 is the Double Eagle design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. A strong wind blows Liberty's garment as she stands confidently facing the holder with her torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. She is joined on the obverse by inscriptions of her name, "LIBERTY," and the date, "2022." Augustus Saint-Gaudens made several numismatic contributions, the best known of which was the Double Eagle. An immigrant from Ireland, he founded the Cornish colony, a community of artists.
Reverse: Renata Gordon sculpted Jennie Norris's reverse design, which depicts a bald eagle in left-side profile. Joining the eagle are a pair of statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "50 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD," are inscribed on the rim. Jennie Norris does graphic design at the University of Arizona. She has won awards for fine art.
