Featuring the Stunning Eagle Design of Jennie Norris
Obverse: Liberty stands at the center of the obverse facing the holder in Augustus Saint-Gaudens's classic Double Eagle design. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind her as she holds her torch high and an olive branch off to her side. Obverse inscriptions read, "LIBERTY" and "2022." Born in Ireland, Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an American immigrant who was renowned for his sculptures. He also founded a community of artists known as the Cornish colony.
Reverse: Jennie Norris designed and Renata Gordon sculpted the left-side profile of an eagle that serves as the reverse design. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the two statutory mottoes, are inscribed above the image. Rim inscriptions note the name of the country that released the coin, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "50 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris's first design to appear on an American coin was this one, which first featured in mid-2021. She is a professional illustrator and a graphic designer.
