Iconic Liberty Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens
Obverse: On the obverse is the famous Saint-Gaudens design, which is named for its creator, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty faces the holder with torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other as the rays of the morning sun spread out in the background. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed at the top, and the date, "2022," is included on the right. The obverse of the Type-2 design was modified based off of the United States Mint's original historical assets to render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens’ original design. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born in Dublin, Ireland and immigrated to the United States. In addition to his numismatic contributions, he founded the Cornish colony, which attracted all types of artists.
Reverse: Jennie Norris's reverse design replaced Miley Busiek's in mid-2021. The design is a closeup, highly detailed look at the head of a bald eagle. Above are the statutory mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "50 DOLLARS," and its weight, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris is an illustrator and graphic designer. This is her first coin design.
