Striking Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens
Obverse: Gracing the obverse yet again is Augustus Saint-Gaudens's famous Double Eagle design. Against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun, Liberty stands confidently facing the holder bearing her torch and an olive branch. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as is the date, "2022." Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States. He is famous for designing the Double Eagle, as well as founding the Cornish colony, a community of artists.
Reverse: A closeup image of an eagle in left-side profile graces the reverse. The image was designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. Above the bird's head are the mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." All of this is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "10 DOLLARS," and "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris is a professional illustrator and graphic designer. This is the first of her designs to feature on an American coin.
