The U.S. Mint continues a series that started in 1986 with this 2022 quarter ounce Gold Eagle. The series got a redesign in mid-2021 with the introduction of the Type 2 version of the coin, when it replaced the Type-1 design. The new type has a different reverse design than the Type 1 coin. Type-2 Gold Eagles also have an obverse design that is closer to the vision of its creator thanks to the mint's employment of its historical assets.

  • This piece was struck from 1/4 oz of .9167 fine gold.
  • This Gold Eagle is $10 legal tender in the United States.

  • Grading information is provided on an exclusive Eagle label.

Striking Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Obverse: Gracing the obverse yet again is Augustus Saint-Gaudens's famous Double Eagle design. Against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun, Liberty stands confidently facing the holder bearing her torch and an olive branch. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as is the date, "2022." Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States. He is famous for designing the Double Eagle, as well as founding the Cornish colony, a community of artists.

Reverse: A closeup image of an eagle in left-side profile graces the reverse. The image was designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. Above the bird's head are the mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." All of this is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "10 DOLLARS," and "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris is a professional illustrator and graphic designer. This is the first of her designs to feature on an American coin.
