Why order this NGC Mint State 70 Classic Brown Label 2022 1/4 oz Gold $10 American Eagle?

The U.S. Mint continues the rich tradition of the Gold Eagle with this 2022 1/4 oz bullion piece. This exciting second year of issue Type-2 Gold Eagle features the new "Eagle Portrait" reverse design that was introduced in mid-2021 when it replaced the Type-1 design. For Type-2 Gold Eagles, the mint also employed its historical assets to bring the obverse design more in line with the original vision of Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

  • This coin is $10 legal tender in the United States.
  • This Gold Eagle was struck from a quarter ounce of .9167 fine gold.
  • This piece is the latest release in a series that started in 1986.
  • The U.S. government backs Gold Eagles for weight and purity.
  • Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Mint State 70.
  • Grading information is provided on a brown label.

Striking Eagle Design by Jennie Norris

Obverse: The obverse features the iconic Saint-Gaudens design, which is named for its creator, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty stands at the center facing the holder with her torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other as the rays of the sun spread out behind her. Obverse inscriptions include her name, "LIBERTY," and the date, "2022." Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an Irish immigrant to the United States. Besides being associated with his Double Eagle, he also founded the Cornish colony, a haven for artists of all kinds.

Reverse: Designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon, the reverse design is a closeup look at an eagle. The two statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed above the bird's head. Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "10 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris is an award winning fine artist, as well as an illustrator and graphic designer. This is her first US coin design.
