Stunning Eagle Design by Jennie Norrs

Obverse: The most beautiful design in American numismatic history, the iconic Saint-Gaudens, graces the obverse. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind Liberty as she stands facing the holder with her torch and an olive branch. Obverse inscriptions include her name, "LIBERTY," and the date, "2022." On Type-2 Gold Eagles, the U.S. Mint used its historical assets to bring the obverse design more in line with the original vision of its designer. Augustus Saint-Gaudens immigrated to the United States from Ireland. Besides his numismatic contributions, he was also a sculptor and the founder of an artist community known as the Cornish colony.

Reverse: Jennie Norris's reverse design, which was sculpted by Renata Gordon, is a left-side profile of a bald eagle. The two statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are included above the bird's head. Rim inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "25 DOLLARS," and "1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris has won awards for fine art. This is the first of her designs to appear on an American coin.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided this coin's grading information on an exclusive Eagle label. NGC graded the coin Mint State 70, which means that it appears perfect even under 5x magnification. NGC also indicated that this coin was submitted within 30 days of its initial release from the mint by certifying it First Releases.
