Why purchase this PCGS certified Mint State 70 First Strikes $5 American 2022 1/10 oz Gold Eagle encapsulated with a patriotic Flag Label?
American coin collectors are in for a treat with this tenth ounce 2022 $5 American Gold Eagle. The coin continues a rich tradition that started in 1986. 2022 marks the second year of issue of the Type-2 Gold Eagle design which replaced the Type-1 in mid-2021. It was then that for the first time in the history of the series, the Family of Eagles reverse design that has been used since 1986 transitioned to the new "Eagle Portrait" reverse design. The iconic Saint-Gaudens obverse design was also then modified to be more in line with its designer's vision thanks to the U.S. Mint's use of its historical assets.
Featuring the Patriotic Eagle Design of Jennie Norris
Obverse: Featured on the obverse is what most experts consider the most beautiful design in American numismatic history, the Saint-Gaudens. Liberty stands at the center facing the holder with her torch and an olive branch as the rays of the morning sun spread out behind her, making her appear larger than life. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed above, and the date, "2022," is noted on the right. On Type-2 Gold Eagles, the U.S. Mint used its historical assets to bring the obverse design more in line with the detail and vision of the designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was a sculptor and an Irish immigrant. He founded the Cornish colony, a community that attracted a variety of artists.
Reverse: A proud eagle is rendered in fine detail on the reverse, which was designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. Above the bird's head are the inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," two mottoes required by law. Also inscribed on this face are the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris works at the University of Arizona as a graphic designer. She is also an illustrator and an award-winning fine artist.
