Powerful Liberty Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens
Obverse: Liberty stands at the center of the obverse striking a confident pose against a backdrop of the rays of the sun. The design comes from the Double Eagle of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The central figure's name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as is the date, "2022." On Type-2 Gold Eagles, the U.S. Mint made of use of its historical assets to revise the obverse design to be closer to the original Saint-Gaudens design. Augustus Saint-Gaudens set up the Cornish colony, a haven for artists. He was a sculptor who was best known for his Double Eagle.
Reverse: On the reverse is a left-side profile of a bald eagle. A pair of statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed above its head. Along the rim are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD."
