Exquisite Eagle Design by Jennie Norris
Obverse: Widely regarded as the most beautiful numismatic design in American history, the Saint-Gaudens, named for its designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features Liberty holding her torch and an olive branch as she faces the holder. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind her to make her appear larger than life. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as is the date, "2022." Augustus Saint-Gaudens came to the United States from Ireland. He was a prolific sculptor and founded the Cornish colony, a community for artists.
Reverse: Jennie Norris's eagle design, which was sculpted by Renata Gordon, features the national bird in left-side profile. The bird's head is below the two statutory inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Encircling the inscriptions and the design are rim inscriptions that provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris has won awards in the category of fine art. She is a professional illustrator and a graphic designer at the University of Arizona.
