Why purchase this NGC certified Mint State 70 $5 American 2022 1/10 oz Gold Eagle paired with the classic Brown Label?

This 1/10 oz 2022 Gold Eagle is an exciting issue from the U.S. Mint. Part of a series that dates back to 1986, this 2022 bullion Gold Eagle is part of the second year of issue of the Type-2 Gold Eagle design. Accordingly, it features the Jennie Norris "Eagle Portrait" reverse design that replaced Miley Busiek's "Family of Eagles" reverse design in mid-2021. On such issues, the U.S. Mint also used its historical assets to bring the obverse design more in line with the original Saint-Gaudens detail and vision.

  • This coin is $5 legal tender in the United States.
  • This coin was struck on a 1/10 oz planchet of .9167 fine gold.
  • The coin continues a series that started in 1986.
  • This is the Type 2 version of the coin, which replaced the Type 1 in mid-2021.
  • Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this coin Mint State 70.
  • The coin's grade comes on a Brown Label.

Exquisite Eagle Design by Jennie Norris

Obverse: Widely regarded as the most beautiful numismatic design in American history, the Saint-Gaudens, named for its designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features Liberty holding her torch and an olive branch as she faces the holder. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind her to make her appear larger than life. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as is the date, "2022." Augustus Saint-Gaudens came to the United States from Ireland. He was a prolific sculptor and founded the Cornish colony, a community for artists.

Reverse: Jennie Norris's eagle design, which was sculpted by Renata Gordon, features the national bird in left-side profile. The bird's head is below the two statutory inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Encircling the inscriptions and the design are rim inscriptions that provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD." Jennie Norris has won awards in the category of fine art. She is a professional illustrator and a graphic designer at the University of Arizona.
