Why order this $5 American 2022 1/10 oz Gold Eagle?
The Gold Eagle is issued in four sizes, and this 1/10 oz piece is the smallest among them. 2022 marks the second year of issue of the Type 2 Gold Eagle design. The Type 2 version, which debuted in mid-2021 when it replaced the Type-1, features a new "Eagle Portrait" reverse design by Jennie Norris and a modified obverse design based off U.S. Mint historical assets which results in a closer reflection to Saint-Gaudens' original design.
Featuring Jennie Norris's Patriotic Eagle Design
Obverse: Retaining its place on the obverse is the beloved Saint-Gaudens design, which is named for Augustus Saint-Gaudens, its creator. Some legacy details were restored to the Type-2 obverse using the U.S. Mint's historical assets, which include modifications to stars, torch, and Capitol Building, among other design elements. Liberty stands confidently in the wind facing the holder with her torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed at the top, and the date, "2022," is on the right. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States. He designed the Double Eagle, from which this design comes, and made other numismatic contributions.
Reverse: The reverse features an eagle in left-side profile, which was designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. Above the bird's head are the statutory inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the face value of the coin, "5 DOLLARS," and the coin's weight, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD," are inscribed along the rim. Jennie Norris is an award winning fine artist, as well as an illustrator and a graphic designer. This is her first design on a coin.
