Why add this American 2021-W Silver Proof Eagle to your collection?
The American Silver Eagle Proof celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2021. The U.S. Mint originally planned to change the reverse design for the first time ever at the start of the year. Plans changed, though, and the design will now be replaced mid-year. That means that this is the final opportunity that collectors will ever have to own a W-Proof Silver Eagle with the Mercanti design.
Featuring Designs by Numismatic Legends John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The obverse design was created by Adolph Weinman and first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The image consists of Liberty carrying branches of laurel and oak, which represent civilian and military honors, respectively, against a backdrop of the rising sun. Inscriptions on this face include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2021." Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar and Mercury Dime were two of the most notable coins in the early 20th century renaissance in American numismatics. He also created many sculptures, some of which remain on display in cities across the United States.
Reverse: The reverse design was modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. An eagle protects a union shield under a triangular arrangement of thirteen stars, which represent the country's original states. They are encircled by three rim inscriptions that offer essential information about the coin, reading, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. During his time with the institution, which included decades before he held that post, he designed more medals and coins than anyone else in its history.
