Why add this 2021-W Proof Silver American Eagle to your collection?
The Proof Silver Eagle marks its 35th anniversary in 2021 of this historic issue. This will be the last West Point Mint struck proof release in the series to include the reverse design that John Mercanti created for its debut in 1986 before it is replaced mid-year.
Featuring John Mercanti's Adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States
Obverse: This coin takes its obverse design from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. An American flag draped Liberty carries branches in her left arm while extending her right arm forward above the rising sun, as though greeting the new day. Inscriptions on this face include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman designed the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime, two of the most important coins in American history. He was also a prominent sculptor whose work can be seen to this day in cities throughout the United States.
Reverse: The reverse design was modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. A union shield is protected by an eagle under thirteen stars, which symbolizes the nation's original states. Encircling this design are three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the U.S. Mint's twelfth Chief Engraver. The time he spent in the post was just a part of his nearly four decades with the mint, during which he designed more coins and medals than anyone else in American history.
Impeccable PF70 UC FDI with Black Core Holder and Exclusive Eagle Label
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin appears perfect as seen under 5x magnification by awarding it their highest grade, Proof 70. The grading company also labeled this piece Ultra Cameo (UC) and First Day of Issue (FDI). The FDI designation is reserved for coins that were submitted for grading through an exclusive process, while the UC designation means that the coin exhibits particularly sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields. NGC provided this information on an exclusive label that bears an image of an eagle, and the coin comes set in a black core holder.
