Why purchase this 2021-W Proof Silver American Eagle?
Share in the 35th anniversary of the Proof Silver Eagle with this 2021-W edition. Since the series started in 1986, its obverse and reverse designs have remained the same. That will change for the first time in 2021 when the U.S. Mint replaces Mercanti's reverse design mid-year. That makes this the final West Point Mint struck Proof issue in the series to bear that design.

Featuring the Traditional Heraldic Eagle Design of John Mercanti
Obverse: The coin's obverse bears the iconic Walking Liberty design that Adolph Weinman created for the 1916 Half Dollar. Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while extending one hand to greet the morning sun, which is just beginning to show itself. The figure's name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image. Other obverse inscriptions read, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." Collectors know Adolph Weinman in large part from his Walking Liberty Half Dollar and Mercury Dime. Other art enthusiasts may be more familiar with his sculptural work, which includes pieces that remain on display in numerous American cities.
Reverse: The reverse design, which was created by John Mercanti, was inspired by the Great Seal of the United States. It features an eagle guarding a union shield and thirteen stars, symbols of the original states. Inscriptions along the rim offer the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti spent almost four decades with the U.S. Mint, part of which he spent as the institution's twelfth Chief Engraver. He has designed more medals and coins than anyone else in American history.
