Featuring for the Last Time John Mercanti's Heraldic Eagle Design
Obverse: The obverse features a design that first appeared on Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Liberty strides confidently in the morning sun as she carries laurel and oak branches. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as are the date, "2021," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Adolph Weinman was a sculptor and numismatic designer. He is best known for designing the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: The reverse bears the heraldic eagle design of John Mercanti, which he modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top, while an eagle protects a union shield below. Rim inscriptions on this face read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti has designed more medals and coins than anyone else in American history. He spent nearly four decades with the US Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver.
