Featuring the Patriotic Heraldic Eagle Design of John Mercanti
Obverse: The coin's obverse image was taken from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Draped in the American flag, Liberty strides confidently in the morning sun carrying laurel and oak branches in her left arm. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed at the top of this face, while the date, "2021," and national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," are also included on the obverse. Adolph Weinman is best known for designing the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.. He also contributed other numismatic designs, and he sculpted many works that remain on display in cities across America.
Reverse: The reverse design was adapted from the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top above an eagle, which guards a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the image along the rim, while inscriptions on the bottom half of the rim offer the coin's metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLARS." John Mercanti spent over three and a half decades working for the US Mint, part of which he spend as its Chief Engraver. He is today recognized as the most prolific designer of medals and coins in American history.
