This coin was struck at the West Point Mint, but does not bear a "W" mint mark. This release is also part of the 35th anniversary issue of the series.
Featuring Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: One of the most famous designs in American numismatic history, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty, features on the obverse. Draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap, Liberty carries laurel and oak branches in the foreground as the morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon to the left. Obverse inscriptions include the figure's name, "LIBERTY, " the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman designed the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, two of the most beautiful pieces in American history. In addition to his work in numismatics, he also created several sculptures, some of which continue to be displayed in various American cities.
Reverse: An eagle protects a union shield under thirteen stars, which symbolize the original states, on the reverse. John Mercanti modeled the image after the Great Seal of the United States. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed on the top half of the rim, while "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR" are included on the bottom half. John Mercanti spent nearly 40 years with the US Mint, part of which he spent as its Chief Engraver. During his tenure, he became the most prolific designer of coins and medals in American history.
