Featuring John Mercanti's Reverse Design for the Final Time.
Obverse: This coin's obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon as an American flag draped Liberty carries branches in the foreground. Inscriptions on this face include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman is best known for two of his contributions to the American numismatic renaissance of the early 20th century, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He also sculpted numerous works that are still on display in cities throughout the United States.
Reverse: Based on the Great Seal of the United States, John Mercanti's reverse design depicts thirteen stars, symbols of the original states, above a union shield that is protected by an eagle. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," is inscribed along the rim at the top. Other rim inscriptions note the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti spent part of his three-plus decades with the US Mint serving as its Chief Engraver. He has designed more medals and coins than anyone else in American history.
